And we're back in Italy! Today's post features images taken at the Sanctuary of Saint Rosalia in Monte Pellegrino, outside of Palermo. This sanctuary was built into a mountainside, in a cave where the relics of Saint Rosalia were discovered. Because of its proximity to Palermo, Saint Rosalia became the patron saint of the city.
What is unique about this sanctuary is its location in the cave -- a small chapel and shrine to Saint Rosalia are tucked into the hollows. Water drips down from the grotto walls and stalactites are formed. It's a very serene and magical place, well worth a visit.
