lunch in palermo

While in Palermo, we went to Antica Focacceria San Francesco for a lunch of traditional Sicilian food.  The restaurant has two levels, and the first level serves food cafeteria style.  It was really busy at lunchtime but waiting in line to order gave us time to survey all the offerings and debate what to get.  I settled on panelle, which are rectangular patties of fried chickpea flour.  My mother-in-law's friend had made these for us in Chicago, but I had to try them in their place of origin and they were delicious. 

Just like the pasticceria, this is another business which garners the antica title.

Serving up pane con la milza, or spleen burgers ... typical street food.
