Three years ago today I was in Cassis, France, celebrating Bastille Day for the first time ever on French soil. Here are some shots from the traditional celebrations that take place on this national holiday:

And firefighters (forest fire watchers). It's funny how orange jumpsuits mean one thing to Americans and something entirely different to the French!

We watched the fireworks from the harbor, sitting on one of the wooden docks along with the rest of the crowd.
Le bal populaire (the dance)
In most towns, the dance takes place in the streets and is open to the public. It is fueled by live music (I can't remember what kind of band we saw -- maybe salsa).
