Since starting to eat healthier (more on that soon), we have become big fans of the bulk foods section at the grocery store. However, hoarding large quantities of dried legumes leads to the issue of never knowing what we have on hand. Our system is still a work in progress, but the current solution is to keep a pantry list on a magnetic pad of paper on the fridge. Knowing that we have these items somewhere in the kitchen helps with meal planning and prevents us from buying unneeded chick peas (again). We keep our dried goods in glass jars -- empty applesauce jars work great, or inexpensive jars like these from IKEA. Obviously, with clear jars, it's easy to track when you're getting low on something. And when we use up the last of the bean du jour, we cross it off the pantry list and add it to the grocery list.
